To mitigate the economic consequences of the Corona pandemic, the state of Berlin has launched the "Digitalprämie Berlin" funding program. Improving the competitiveness and future viability of Berlin as a business location is the stated goal of the funding program. Solo self-employed persons as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will thus be able to access grants for business digitization projects in the coming months. "The digital premium means a unique opportunity for many Berliners to adapt their corporate structures to the challenges of digital transformation," explains Luc Mader, CEO and founder of luckycloud.

What does the Digitalprämie Berlin promote?

The digital premium supports the digitalization of work, production and management processes. This includes the initial purchase of IT hardware and software. However, expenditure on standard hardware or software that only fulfills basic functions is not eligible. Applicants should therefore check the funding guidelines carefully. Projects to introduce or improve corporate IT security can also be submitted, as well as digitization-related consulting and qualification measures. "In addition to NAS, storage and cloud solutions are also subsidized in this area, and thus basically the entire range of our platform," explains Luc Mader. "Whether secure file hosting or flexible backup concept consisting of cloud storage and NAS server: We are happy to advise on the various ways in which a company can transform itself into a digital organization with luckycloud. We actively help, with all our expertise, to advance digitization projects of the most diverse companies in a precisely fitting way," adds Luc Mader.

Who can apply for the Digital Premium?

Small and medium-sized businesses as well as solo self-employed persons can claim the digital premium. "These must have a minimum income of 26,000 euros per year from current activities and their headquarters in Berlin. In addition, the start-up must have taken place before December 31, 2019," Luc Mader explains the requirements. A total of 80 million euros in funding is available. The state of Berlin subsidizes digitization with up to 50 percent of the project volume. Solo self-employed individuals or SMEs with up to 10 employees can receive up to 7,000 euros as a non-repayable grant. SMEs with more than 10 up to 249 employees can even receive up to 17,000 euros in funding. "Experience from similar programs in other German states shows that it pays to be quick," advises Luc Mader. "Provided that each applicant calls up the full funding amount, the funding is sufficient for 4,700 applicants."
